Riverside trap team competes at State
The Wyoming Trap Shooting State Tournament took place in Torrington at the end of June and nine members of Riverside’s team competed.
“The state tournament is a really fun time and a great experience for the kids,” said Coach Calvin Brown. “They get to see and compete against kids from around the state, at a nice shooting facility, with multiple trap fields all going on at once.”
There are three divisions at the tournament, novice, junior varsity and varsity, and athletes are placed in each division based on their average score per round during the regular season.
“We didn’t have anyone compete this year in the varsity division, but we had some great scorers in the other divisions,” said Brown.
Lane Owen placed second in the novice division, breaking 76/100 clays. McKenzie Potter tied for fifth place in the novice division, breaking 53/100 clays. Mason Rosencranse placed second in the JV division, breaking 95/100 clays.
“We tell the kids that we want them to shoot their best rounds of the season at the state tournament. That’s our goal for them, and the majority of our kids met that goal, so that’s exciting. Overall, the kids had a great time and we hope to return next year with more shooters,” ended Brown.
