Ronald Lloyd Ohman

Ronald Lloyd Ohman, fondly known as “Doc” by his patients and friends, died suddenly Sept. 30, 2016, in his home in his favorite chair.Ron was born Oct. 20, 1939, in Bertha, Minn., to Mildred (Thorpe) and Lloyd Ohman. “Ronnie,” as he was known in his younger years, grew up in Deer Creek, Minn.During his youth, Ron was active in sports and loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He spent his summers working on his uncle Herbie’s farm and while in high school spent two summers working in Yellowstone Park. Ron attended school in Deer Creek, graduating from Deer Creek High School in 1957. It was also there that he fell in love with his lifelong bride, Marlys Langemo. After high school, Ron attended Northwestern College of Chiropractic, graduating with a Doctor of Chiropractic in 1960.Ron and Marlys were married on Feb. 25, 1961, and soon after left Minnesota to head west. The first stop was in Cody, where the first three of their children – Karen, Leif and Kristin – were born. In 1965, the family moved and settled in Powell, where Erik, the last of their four children, was born. In Powell, Ron started his successful chiropractic practice and was elected president of the Wyoming Chiropractic Association in 1967. His “best hands in the west” took great care of his patients until retiring in 2006.[caption id="attachment_11722" align="alignright" width="200"] Ronald Lloyd Ohman[/caption]Ron loved Powell and was very active at Immanuel Lutheran Church and in the community. At Immanuel Lutheran Church he sang in the choir, served as an elder several times and served as president of the congregation. He served as a board member for Park County School District No. 1, and on the Powell Recreation District board. He was active in civic clubs, being the first member of the Powell Jaycees to be honored with a Jaycee International senatorship in 1977. Ron was very active in the Powell Kiwanis Club, being chosen as Kiwanian of the year in 2013. Ron was especially proud of having achieved 51 years of perfect attendance in Kiwanis.Ron’s love of sports and the outdoors never faded. He spent many years playing city league basketball and slow pitch softball, and was an umpire for baseball and softball for 20 years. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. Ron loved hunting both birds and big game, especially afternoons at his favorite drain ditch, waiting for ducks with his labs Millie and Maggie. Ron looked forward to spending summers on the lake in Minnesota fishing for northerns and bass or whatever was biting that day.Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Lloyd Ohman, brother Gerald Ohman, sisters-in-law Ilah Johnson and Clorice Truax, brother-in-law William Johnson and by two grandchildren.He is survived by his wife Marlys of Powell, daughter Karen Martin (Greg) of Auburn, Wash., son Leif (Julie) Ohman of Powell, daughter Kristin Gray of Auburn, Wash., son Erik (Sandi) Ohman of Las Vegas, Nev., brother Rev. Martin (Carol) Langemo of Princeton, Minn., sister-in-law Marcella Ohman of Lovell, aunt Dorinne Gronfor of Anoka, Minn., 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.A public viewing was held on Monday, Oct. 3, at Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ron’s name to the Immanuel Lutheran Church building fund, or to a charity of your choice.
