Rough ride for Riverside Rebels

This was a week for the Riverside Rebels to work on their offense and defense under pressure. First up was Friday, they faced two teams that were described as “just more physical and more disciplined than us and we weren’t able to compete as well as I would have liked to.” By coach Winters. First they went up against Rocky Mountain, in the first quarter they were able to knock down some outside shots but they couldn’t execute our offense as well as they needed to. Unfortunately this continued for the 2nd and 3rd quarter Coach Winters commented: “I felt like our struggles on offense affected our defense. We got frustrated we weren’t making shots in the second quarter and struggled to get back on defense and rotate out onto their shooters. We were able to outscore them in the fourth, but by that time the game was already decided.” He added: “the positive was that Ryder was able to knock down some of his outside shots and as a team we shot better from the free throw line than we have this season.” Next up they went up against Worland. They did an excellent job executing their offense well and the Rebels weren’t able to slow them down. They tried both man and zone defense but Worland was still able to score inside and outside. The Rebels “had to contend with aggressive man defense and couldn’t generate any points and turned the ball over too much. They were a much deeper team than us and we weren’t able to keep up with them.” Coach Winters remarked. He did go on to say, “The boys continued to play with heart despite the lopsided scores in both games so I was pleased with their competitiveness.” This positioned them to play their Saturday game against Greybull. Coach Winters mentioned; “We were looking forward to playing them because we felt like they were a team that we would match up well with.” They had a slow start, turning the ball over early and that led to some transition baskets for them and they weren’t hitting their shots or free throws. They competed well in the second half and did a much better job defensively, but they weren’t able to cut into the deficit that they made early on. Coach Winters said they will be working on taking care of the ball and not forcing drives or passes when they aren’t there. “It will be good to face some conference competition after playing some of the bigger schools last week” Coach Winters stated. Their next game will be January 23rd in Meeteetse at 7PM, then the 24th on the home court at 7PM
