Santa to visit Basin Saturday for Home for the Holidays
Mr. Claus has confirmed he will be in Basin for the annual Home for the Holidays. Kicking off the evening event at 6 p.m. is the lighting of the Christmas lights at the courthouse. Santa will wave his hand and the lights will magically turn on.
The lighted Christmas parade follows. The parade will start at the corner of Fifth and C streets, travel down C Street, then turn right onto Fourth for a few blocks.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will ride on a Basin Volunteer Fire Truck for the parade. Word is that the Grinch will be in the parade as well. After the parade, children may visit with Santa at the corner of C and Fourth streets. The town’s Christmas tree will be there and decorated with free ornaments.
Also, Saturday is the final viewing and bidding in the Basin City Arts Center’s Festival of Trees. The center will open at 1 p.m. In addition to the trees, there is a silent auction. They will close for a short time while the parade is going on but will open afterward. There are trees of all sizes and styles. Cartoons will be playing on the first floor of the BCAC during Home for the Holidays.
The First Baptist Church will give away cookies and hot chocolate at Russell Park. Free cotton candy will be given away in front of the Post Office by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Big Horn County Library in Basin will be open for the evening with hot chocolate and crafts for the kids. Kids may also go to Basin’s Market to pick up a sheet for a coloring contest.
Food specials are planned at The Overland, Basin Market’s Deli and Stockman’s Bar. Stockman’s will also have drink specials.
Two Guys a Popping kettle corn and Get Smashed Burger Bar will also be on hand. The Copper Corner Café will not be open. Free cinnamon rolls will be handed out at the future home of Mad Jack’s Western Style Burritos (current vacant lot on C Street).
Starting at 8 a.m. that day will be a Holiday Craft Market at the Basin Rec Building (old high school gym).
