The Lady Huskies are back on the court and preparing for the basketball season. After losing only one senior last year, they will have all their remaining varsity members returning and 12 athlete in total including four seniors, three juniors, one sophomore and four freshmen.

They are looking to put in the groundwork these first couple of weeks to build their foundation.

“We have been working quite a bit so far on culture and teamwork,” said Coach Cheryl Haslam. “Obviously, everyone’s goal is to have a winning season. We are going to focus on our defense like we always do. This is the first year that we’ve had more post players than guards, so we are hoping to utilize that to our advantage on offense. The first few weeks have gone great and we are really excited for the season.”

Haslam is joined once again at the helm by assistant coaches Rebecca Walker and Cheyanne Jordan.

Burlington finished last season with a second place at regionals and a third place state finish and hope to continue with the strong trend. “Our seniors are doing a great job of being leaders so far and they are ready to get things rolling,” Haslam said. “We’ve done a bit better each season, throughout the season, and I hope that we can push all the way through to the end this year. We definitely have the talent to have a great year and I look forward to seeing where this season takes us. Even though we don’t have many girls out, they are all girls who want to be there and are working hard each day. They push themselves and their teammates in practice.”

The Lady Huskies will compete this weekend in the Carbon County Classic Tournament in Saratoga and Encampment.
