Standing up against hate is what is good and right

It is disgusting what is happening in the United States because of the war in Israel. The war is bad enough. Our troops being targeted in the Middle East is a family’s worst nightmare.
While there is little or nothing we can do about those issues. we can   stop hate from popping up in Wyoming like it is in other parts of the U.S.  Standing up is what good people do. It is what is right to do.
Jews, Palestinians, and Muslims are being threated, beaten and targeted in America.
Jewish students at Cornell University were put on partial lockdown after hateful threats that included physical violence were posted on the college’s discussion board.
A 6-year-old Palestinian-American boy was stabbed to death by a landlord in Chicago. Police believe the attack was because he and his mom were Muslim.
Stories like this are happening all over the world and our country. This is not OK. It’s not OK in America. It’s not OK in Wyoming.
It isn’t the first time this happened in America. One must only recall events like the Trail of Tears, internment camps, slavery, etc.   The attack on America on Sept. 11 was an example of a group of people (Americans) that were targeted because of hate.
Thankfully, no cases of attacks or threats on Jews or Muslims, that I know of, have been reported in Wyoming. Possibly because there isn’t a big population of either.  I would also like to believe it is because we are better than this in Wyoming. That we have learned from the past from hate crimes that have happened here, like Matthew Shepard, Heart Mountain Internment Camp or the Rock Springs Massacre.
It’s not enough that we ourselves don’t participate in hate crimes. We also must take a stand if we see it happening. Just like we would if we saw a purse snatcher or someone throwing rocks at cars or defacing a public place.
To quote Napoleon, “The world suffers a lot not because of the violence of bad people but because of the silence of good people.”
