State legislators face will face primary tests

Incumbents state legislators Martha Lawley, John R. Winter and Ed Cooper will all have to fend off challengers for the Republican nomination in the August primary election.
Lawley, of Worland, has been joined in the House District 27 race by Tami Young, who is also from Worland.
Winter, who represents House District 28, is being challenged by Kevin Skates.  Both men reside in Thermopolis.
Cooper, of Ten Sleep, represents Senate District 20.  Tom Olmstead, of Basin, has also filed for the seat.
The filing period for these three legislative seats, as well as a lone seat on the county commission and council assignments in
Basin, Manderson and
Burlington, closes at 5 p.m. Friday, May 31.
As of Tuesday morning, incumbent Bruce Jolley of Lovell is the only filer for a single four-year term on the Big Horn County Commission.  Jolley filed for the Republican nomination.
For Basin Town Council, the terms of Carl Olson and Stuart DesRosier are expiring this year.  Thus far, only Linda Weeks has filed for council.
In Burlington, incumbent council members Jenny Booth and Don Hibbert have both filed for re-election.
In Manderson, voters will be asked to fill a pair of four-year terms and a two-year term.  Troy Chambers and Judy Bury are currently serving four-year terms; Tim Patrick occupies the two-year seat.   As of Tuesday, only Bury has filed for re-election.
