State releases May 2026 Economic Indicators report

CHEYENNE (WNE) — Wyoming’s economic health slightly improved from March 2025 to March 2026, according to the Wyoming Economic Health Index, an economic indicator designed to provide an overall assessment of the state’s economy. 

The WEHI reported an index value of 106.7 in March 2026. This value is slightly higher than the March 2025 value of 106.5. The WEHI has increased year-over-year in each of the last two months.

Highlights of the May issue of the Wyoming Economic Indicators report include the following: 

The unemployment rate for Wyoming in March 2026 was 3.6%, higher than the March 2025 rate (3.2%), but lower than the March 2026 national unemployment rate (4.3%).

Total non-farm payroll jobs in Wyoming numbered 294,600 in March 2026, higher than March 2025 by 100 jobs.

Wyoming’s sales and use tax collections from the mining sector in March 2026 decreased 12.3% compared to March last year.

Wyoming’s collection of the 4% sales and use tax from lodging in March 2026 decreased 4.2% compared to March last year.
