Strohschein sets school record in 200 By Nathan Oster

Senior Ty Strohschein set a new school record in the 200 at Saturday’s Rocky Mountain Invitational, crossing the finish line in 22.73 seconds.
Beckett Hinckley had held the previous record, a 22.75, for four decades.  
Prior to Saturday, Strohschein’s best had been a 22.88.
It was part of a three-win day for the Riverside standout, as he won not only the 200 but also the 100 and was part of the triumphant 400-meter relay team.
Wyatt Daly Patterson was Riverside’s only new state qualifier, as he beat the 1A standard in the high jump.
Kennedy Bassett picked up two wins for the Rebels, taking the 100-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 17.07 seconds as well as the 300-meter hurdles in 52.04.
Vinaya VanderPloeg captured a win in the 200 meters, finishing in a personal best 27.09 seconds.
As a team, the Lady Rebels placed third behind 3A Powell and Lovell. The boys were fourth, trailing those same two schools and 1A Burlington.
The Rebels close out the regular season at a pre-regional meet Friday in Thermopolis.  
Coach Jason Mitchell said there are still a few athletes who would like to pre-qualify.  Ryder Kozisek has cleared 5-4 in the high jump and needs a 5-6. Bassett’s best time in the 200 hurdles is a 52.04; the 1A qualifying standard is a 51.64.
For the Rebels who don’t qualify this week, all it will take to earn a trip to Casper is a top-eight finish in an individual event or a top-four finish in a relay.
