Students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grade at Laura Irwin Elementary School and those from Riverside Middle School got an opportunity of a lifetime by participating in the Antelope Butte Ski Program.

The program consisted of teaching the students cross-country and downhill skiing.

On February 22-25, Antelope Butte instructors came to the schools and provided cross-country ski lessons during PE class for each grade level. Antelope Butte provided the rental equipment for the students.

Then on Feb. 26, students took a field trip to the snowy slopes of Antelope Butte for a day of downhill skiing. The first two hours of the day was spent with instructors. The students spent the afternoon refining their skills or skiing down the slopes.

Security State Bank provided $1,000 for the trip. The BHC School District No. 4 board of trustees agreed to match those funds.

RMHS P.E. instructor Calvin Brown was thankful for Security State Bank and the school district for their sponsorships, which made the experience possible.

Brown also expressed gratitude to Antelope Butte for the opportunity, flexibility and experience it provided for the 40 students who participated in the program.
