Students place first and second in essay contest
The American Legion Auxiliary holds an Americanism essay contest each year on a local, state and national level.
The contest is open to students in grades three through 12 who attend any school as well as those who are home-schooled.
Submissions are sent to the local American Legion Auxiliary units to be judged and the first and second place winners are then sent to the ALA Department of Wyoming to compete against students in thesame grade throughout the state. The winner on the state level is then sent on for judging on a national level. The topic varies each year and for these essays, it was “What Does Patriotism Mean to Me.” The essays were then judged by outside sources.
First place went to Tell Whitaker and second place to Hanna Suiter. The essay contest entries this year are due on December 15, 2024. The topic is “What Does America the Beautiful mean to me (regarding veterans and our military)?”
