Three candidates applied for the open superintendent’s job in Big Horn County School District No. 4, where current superintendent Jory Thompson recently resigned, effective at the end of the school year.

The district set up community forums for parents and the community to meet the three candidates. After each community forum, the candidate will interview with the school board.

The first forum was Monday, Feb. 17. Fifteen people came to meet and ask questions of Keith Campbell, whose wife Bridget was also in attendance. Cash Duncan introduced Campbell. He also answered most questions that had been submitted.

When asked why he was interested in coming to Basin, Campbell replied because it is a great school district and to be closer to family and friends. He currently lives in North Dakota, but is from Montana.

Campbell was asked about his experience. He stated he has been in education for 38 years and has been a superintendent before.

Another question was about his leadership style. He responded that he believes in collaboration, engaging others, empowering others and involving others in the leadership process. “It’s just not me making decisions. When we make decisions, it involves the stakeholders.” Including community members, teachers and students. Building relationships is also an important part of leadership.

The next two forums are Feb. 24 and 25 at the school commons at 5 p.m. Luke Kloker is first up on that Monday. The following day the community will have the opportunity to meet Levi Collins.
