Totes of Hope provides weekend food for children
Through the Totes of Hope program, food goes to students from the Riverside schools every Friday. Thirty students’ families are currently signed up.
Organizer Carmen Olson said volunteers load up plastic bags to help with food insecurity over the weekends. The plastic bags are donated by Lynns SuperFoods.
Items sent home include juice boxes, hot or cold cereal, skillet meals, canned tuna, chicken meat packages, some type of fruit, shelf-stable milk and cheese sticks. Beef sticks from the First Lady of Wyoming Jennie Gordon’s Hunger Initiative are also included.
The first Friday of the month, jars of jelly and peanut butter go in the bags.
The Basin First Baptist has pledged to match donations up to $1,000 for the program. Those interested in donating to the matching fund or to the program in general should call Olson at 307-899-0446.
Families with students at the Riverside schools who are experiencing food insecurities can sign up for the program at the schools. A form will need to be filled out.
