Town needs to increase enforcement of traffic laws
Dear Editor:
After reading Barbara Anne Greene’s article on illegal U-turns, it points out a bigger issue. The issue is lack of enforcement.
At a recent town council meeting, the issue of speeding on South Ninth Street and Big Horn Avenue was discussed. The talked-about solution was to post speed signs. Hmm, that idea does not work very well as people ignore the signs as Greene pointed out in her article. The offending people do not pay attention to signs whether it may be a stop, yield, or speeding. These people do what they want. The solution for this is to have the Basin police force start patrolling more. Too often, the police vehicles are parked on Third Street or at the Sheriff’s Office.
When I questioned the council about why the weed ordinance was not being enforced, an excuse was given. It is time for the council and mayor to stop making excuses for the lack of enforcement. As Greene points out, it is a danger issue. Is it going to take a death to get the change or will the council do something about this lack of enforcement?
Sincerely,
Gene Grose
