At its Oct. 26 meeting, the Basin Town Council reviewed a rough draft of a post card that will be sent to residents.
The card states that effective June 1, 2024, no groundwater or stormwater may be put into the town’s sewer system. Both the town code and the Department of Environmental Quality support the town council’s decision.
Mayor Duncan stated, “This goes hand in hand with the money we just spent on Ninth Street and Holdridge to upgrade their sewer system to get rid of groundwater that is infiltrating our system down there. It makes it so we have too much water so the bacteria can’t work. Then we have e-coli escaping into the river. This is another step in correcting all the issues that have been there for years.”
After an executive session meeting on Oct. 26, the Basin Town Council extended rental contracts to Healing Touch Massage.  The contracts are for the previous town hall on Fourth Street and the Eagles Annex on C Street.
In other business:
• A building permit for was approved for the Hagemeister property on Zane Ave.
• As requested by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #29, November 3 was proclaimed Poppy Day in the town of Basin.
• Ordinance 708-Farm Animals passed.
• The council discussed a proposed drainage near the top shop. Property owner Kimberly Hiday has concerns about the storm water in that area.
