Twenty-first annual Hyattville Cowboy Carnival May 25
The Hyattville Community Center’s 2lst annual Cowboy Carnival kicks off at 9 a.m. on May 25. Mary Hyatt-Burns said, “If you haven’t experienced it, make your plans to join us in friendly Hyattville for our carnival during Memorial Day Weekend – fun for the whole family, entertainment, and a home-cooked BBQ lunch.”
The first event of the day is at 9 a.m. This is when registration for the 5K and Kids K starts. Registration is required. It may be done the day-of online.
This is the 20th year of the Quilt Show, which is one of the favorites of attendees. The show starts at 10 a.m.
Hyatt-Burns voiced, “Our quilt show, even if we’re being modest, is one of the best things about Cowboy Carnival. There are wonderfully dedicated quilters who invest so much time, money, and love into their unique quilts. During this weekend, we will have more quilts on display than the total population of Hyattville. Come see these works of art - and you never know, some may even be for sale.”
Also opening at 10 a.m. is the History Room’s, book sale, plant sale and the start of the adult 5K. The kids’ race starts at 11 a.m.
The displays in the History Room will feature Kate Richardson’s presentation of “Cooking on the Trail.” Kate has packed camp food into interesting places in interesting situations throughout the years. In addition to Richardson, there will be history displays of “Sawmills” and “Hunting Camps.” The ever-expanding Military Room will be open for viewing.
The Sharpshooter Contest also begins at 10 a.m. Hyatt-Burns noted it is at the old air strip on the south side of town on the gravel road that heads to Ten Sleep. It will be marked. Bring your own gun(s); some events have entry fees. This event has really exploded in popularity.
At 10:30 am Cherokee Jackson will give a presentation and demonstration for horse enthusiasts on selecting, training, grooming and showing a horse. She will be bringing two horses to use in her demonstrations. It will be held in the pasture where the Sheep Dog Trials are held.
The Will Berg and Family musical entertainment is sponsored by ANB. The show starts at noon. Berg and his family of musicians are from Lander and have performed throughout Fremont County. His daughters join him in playing their fiddles to create this family group of entertainers.
Lunch is served at 12:30 p.m. It includes beef, lamb, pork, and a selection of side dishes. While you’re eating, you can enjoy live music by this year’s entertainers. After lunch, take time to view the items for the Live Auction. You can also enjoy a serving of wonderful homemade pies with ice cream for dessert in the cafeteria.
Another super popular event is The Chauncey McMillan Memorial Sheep Dog Trials Jackpot Competition, scheduled for 1 p.m. and always attracts a large crowd. Lisa Keeler and Alison Gerrad of Kaycee will judge the dog entries from Wyoming and Montana. Entry fees are $50 per dog. It is likely to be larger show than last year. Only dogs entered in the competition will be allowed on the grounds. They must be leashed. Prizes will be given for first through fourth place. Each handler will receive a bag of dog food.
The BB gun shoot for youth starts at 2 p.m. The guns will be provided. There is a live auction at 3 p.m.
The tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for kids 12 and under or $35 for immediate family.
