William “Bill” Russell Lynam

Aug. 12, 1933 - Jan. 28, 2013William “Bill” Russell Lynam, 79, died on Jan. 28, 2013, in Lovell surrounded by his loved ones.Bill was born on Aug. 12, 1933, in Greybull to Robert and Delberta Lynam. He grew up in Greybull spending most of his time with his sister and brothers. Of his childhood experiences, one of the most vivid was hopping onto train cars headed to Billings, where he drove truck until they discovered his young age of 15.He lived with his family in Greybull until he joined the Navy in 1950. His Navy service was most fascinating while traveling the world on the USS Balduck as a Navy signalman. Bill was a lifelong jokester with a big personality. Most people who knew Bill lost a lot of money flipping quarters. That was one of his favorite pastimes.[caption id="attachment_5556" align="alignright" width="185"] William “Bill” Russell Lynam[/caption]On June 1, 1956, Bill married the love of his life, Kay LaPrile Winkler, in the Burlington LDS Chapel. They later sealed their marriage in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple. They started their married life together living in a wall tent at Shell Reservoir, where Bill worked for a year helping to construct the Shell Reservoir Dam. He also helped build the South Big Horn Hospital.Bill was a seasoned heavy equipment operator running scrapers and graders for the bentonite plants for more then 20 years. He finished his heavy equipment career when he retired from the county road and bridge crew where he drove a grader. Bill was a hard worker and always provided for his family. He taught his children how to work and have fun. Bill’s greatest love was his family.Bill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a strong love for the Lord and a great testimony of the Gospel. The things he enjoyed most were camping at Shell Reservoir, hunting, fishing, hosting hay rides and having mud fights in the canal with the grandkids. Later in life Walmart trips were a highlight with his wife. Bill and Kay have four brilliant children: Vicki Croft of Lovell; Connie (Larry) Dickinson of Thermopolis; Robert (Heather) Lynam of Morgan, Utah, and Kim (Kurt) Acton of Cody.Toward the end of his life, Bill called Lovell his home so he could be closer to his sweetheart, who lives in the New Horizons Care Center.Besides his wife, Kay, he is survived by his sister Leota Harkins of Casper; his children Vicki, Connie, Bob and Kim and his 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Diz Lynam, Joe Castro and Tom Castro and two granddaughters, Baylee Dickinson and Cassie Croft.Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb 1, at 11 a.m. at the Basin/Greybull LDS Chapel with a viewing starting at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at the Basin Cemetery.
