Winter, Alwin face off in House District 28
A pair of Hot Springs County residents are hoping to represent District 28 in the Wyoming House of Representatives.
John R. Winter, the Republican incumbent, faces a challenge from Democrat Larry Alwin, who received enough write-ins in the August primary to enter the race.
The winner will serve a two-year term in the House.
District 28 includes all or parts of Hot Springs, Washakie, Big Horn and Park counties
Background
Alwin: I was born the middle of five children just across the Wyoming border in the small town of Harrison, Neb. After graduating from Chadron State College with a teaching degree, I began teaching computer classes to adults, which led me to my current career as a software consultant, working remotely from home. I became active in politics when the Dobbs decision was leaked just over two years ago. I understand that groundwork at our local level is the best way a single individual can work to preserve the rights of people in our community.
Winter: Born and raised at Cody and reside on Kirby Creek near Thermopolis since 1999 with my wife, Diane. Graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in range management and worked for the Bureau of Land Management as a range conservationist and wild horse specialist. Returned to the private sector in agriculture and as a big-game outfitter in the Thorofare. Served in the 65th and 66th legislative sessions of the Wyoming House of Representatives from 2019-22 and am currently serving in the 67th Legislature for a third term serving on the House Agriculture, State and Public Lands & Water Resources; House Travel, Recreation, Wildlife & Cultural Resources; and Select Federal Natural Resource Management Committee. Endorsements include Wyoming Family Alliance, Wyoming Right-to-Life, Gun Owners of America, Utah Senator Mike Lee. I am Pro-Trump and his America First Agenda (God, Country and Family); Pro-Wyoming Republican Platform (God, Liberty, Freedom, American Exceptionalism); Pro-Life, 2nd Amendment, Private Property Rights, Religious Freedom, and consider myself to be a Common-Sense Constitutional Conservative.
Why are you running for office.
Alwin: I’m running to be your state representative for House District 28 because you deserve a choice this election. I want to work hard to represent your needs in Cheyenne by voting for what’s truly in your best interests. I want to be your representative because I love my community and the people in it and I want to see success come from every corner of it. I’m running on a platform of integrity, accountability, and most of all action. If elected, I pledge to listen to your concerns, work hard for real solutions, and represent our district with honesty and dedication.
Winter: It is my priority to make Wyoming the best it can be as a conservative enclave and as an example for other states. I believe we are making big strides in accomplishing that goal and I ask all of you to vote for the best candidates and please encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same. We still have a lot of work to do and I want to stay in the middle of the action. I strongly believe in the traditional family with marriage between a man and woman. Any other arrangement is against our American values and beliefs and should be kept out of our schools and the political realm.
