The world needs more Brendon Lairds
Ten years ago this month, we lost a special young man: 18-year-old Brendon Laird.
A memory regarding Brendon came up on Facebook memories. As I read the words through teary eyes, it reminded me that we would all be better people if we were like him.
Below are some memories I shared then:
What was it about him that made him so special? Why do so many people want to be involved in his memorial? Why do people want to honor him? He was a teenager. So many of those that are his age are too busy living their lives and doing it selfishly. Just like most of us were at that age. In fact, like many of still do today. Brendon always cared more about others than himself.
His grandma Diane tells of a story when Brendon was riding in the hills and came across a sheep herder who had no gloves. Despite the cold temps, he gave his gloves to that herder. He rode home without gloves and his hands were practically frozen. When asked about it, Brendon said he would do it again.
If something happened to you, would you be remembered like Brendon was? Would people want to do something in your honor?
I challenge you and myself to do something good for someone else every day. To stop thinking only about ourselves. Do something that puts you out as you put someone before yourself. Be a Brendon Laird.
Even in death, Brendon gave. There are people alive today because Brendon was a donor.
Thank you, Brendon. Our world would be better if we followed your example. You are missed. You are loved.
