Wyo-Ben invites public to celebrate 75th

The public is invited to help celebrate the anniversary of its local mining company. A fifth-generation, family-owned company headquartered in Billings, Montana, the local Wyo-Ben’s Magnet Cove Plant in Greybull will be open to the community on Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Specializing in extracting and processing premium bentonite clay, the company was founded in 1951 and has grown to be a global leader in mineral-based technologies. Their products serve industries from civil engineering and agriculture to cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. 

The event is free and open to the public and will offer visitors an opportunity to learn more about one of the Big Horn Basin’s longest-standing manufacturing and mining companies while celebrating their 75th anniversary.

Guests can tour the facility, climb on equipment, meet Wyo-Ben employees, learn about bentonite mining and manufacturing, enjoy lunch, and participate in giveaways throughout the day. There will be four tours offered at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 p.m., with a safety briefing before each tour. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

“We are proud to celebrate 75 years of operating in the Big Horn Basin and want to share that milestone with the communities that have supported us throughout our history,” said David Brown, President and CEO of Wyo-Ben. “This open house is an opportunity for people to learn about what we do, the products we manufacture, the careers we offer, and the incredible employees who have helped build Wyo-Ben into the company it is today.”

As part of the celebration, Wyo-Ben will recognize its 210 Wyoming-based employees whose dedication and hard work have contributed to the company’s success for generations. Many current employees come from families whose fathers, mothers, grandparents, and other relatives also built their careers at Wyo-Ben.

“As we celebrate our 75th year, we want to thank our employees and their families,” Brown said. “Many generations have helped shape our company, and we would not be here today without them. Their commitment has allowed us to grow from a local operation into a company whose products are shipped around the world.”

Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about current career opportunities, as Wyo-Ben is actively hiring for several positions.

Wyo-Ben sources its bentonite reserves primarily from the Big Horn Basin with processing and packaging plants located in Greybull, Lovell and Thermopolis. Their Billings location handles the strategic, commercial and consumer-facing sides of the business along with their packaging facility, Wyo-Ben Pet. They also have a location in Toronto, Canada. 

The Magnet Cove Plant is located at 2626 County Lane 33 in Greybull.
