Wyoming Staycations are a win/win

During the peak of Covid-19, the Basin Area Chamber of Commerce started a Facebook page called Wyoming Staycation. The goal of the page was to help travel industry businesses that were impacted by fewer people coming to the state due to Covid. The page asked Wyoming residents to frequent those businesses to help make up for the losses.  
The focus of the page has changed somewhat and it now focuses on more than just travel industry. It promotes all sorts of events and places, including historical sites, state parks, monuments, etc., and that’s a win as we keep our money in Wyoming, thus supporting local businesses and communities.
Another win is that those who follow the page get to learn about some awesome events and places that are, at most, just a few hours away.  There is no need to get a passport or hop on a plane or drive for days. Besides, Wyoming is a much safer place to travel than many designations.
Recently, my husband and I went to Sinks Canyon State Park near Lander. We stayed in a yurt right next to the river. Some of the topography is different than any other canyon I’ve seen, it was fascinating. There are trails, biking, climbing, fishing, etc.
In the visitor’s center, there are a few things that are unique and fun. In addition to live ferrets, there is an augmented reality sandbox. Google what that is. Your mind will be blown.
I posted pictures on my personal Facebook page. Many people commented they had never been, but want to go. One friend has already called and booked a yurt for her husband and her. Camping sites are available, too.
Our next adventure will likely be Keyhole State Park so we can stay in a glam treehouse.
