Lady Huskies gear up for regionals

The Lady Huskies finished the regular season with two conference games. “We had a good week of practice with a few curveballs. One of our setters injured her shoulder early in the week so we spent some time working on some other options. The team worked hard together to fill in the gaps and all the girls stepped up to help with the changes,” said Coach Erin Bassett.
Friday, the Lady Huskies hosted Ten Sleep at home for the last home game of the season. “We had hoped to practice live some of our adjustments, but the night ended up being a really good opportunity for our freshman and JV to get some extra time in,” said Bassett. Burlington swept the match in three games 25-6, 25-10, 25-11.
The Lady Huskies travelled to Dubois on Saturday. “It was a little bittersweet knowing it was the last JV game of the season, but the girls played really well. As coaches we were so happy to see the progress they made and are excited to have them again next year!” said Bassett. “The varsity girls came out on a roll and steamrolled through the first two sets. Hailee Winterholler stepped up to relieve Breanne Walker’s shoulder and did a really nice job. She had a lot of excellent serves and did a good job blocking on the net. Overall, I was pleased with the team’s passing. I felt like they passed better than we have in weeks. Sarah McNiven had another good night at the net with Naomi McNiven, Paxton Philpott, Selena Call and Dalley Bassett chipping in lots of kills as well.”
The Lady Huskies lost some momentum in the third set and despite a tough fight, couldn’t pull off the win and lost in five games 25-21, 25-17, 19-25, 22-25, 13-15.
“We are really looking forward to Regionals,” said Bassett. “These girls seem to perform well against tough teams and there will be plenty of talent there this weekend. There is some pretty stiff competition in our region, so it will be lots of good volleyball.”
The Lady Huskies are scheduled to play the second seed from the Southwest, Little Snake River in the first round in Riverton with a start time of 10 a.m. on Friday.
