Santa, Mrs. Claus, and tons of other events are coming to Basin Saturday. It is the Town of Basin’s annual Home for the Holidays.
The first one took place in 2018 and saw a lighted parade, Santa, free chili and the turning on of the courthouse Christmas lights.
The event will unfold a little bit different this year. The kickoff will be the turning on of the courthouse Christmas lights at 6:30 p.m.
The parade will start after. The route has changed. It will begin at the corner of South Fifth and C Street, travel east on C Street until Fourth, then turn right (south) and continue until Myrtle.
Parade entries may return to C Street and park on the south side of the street.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will lead the parade then return to take pictures on the southeast corner of Fourth and C streets.
Back this year is the free cotton candy in front of the post office. It is sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Across from Santa on the southwest corner of Fourth and C Street, the Basin Baptist Church is handing out hot chocolate and cookies.
Fun at the library starts at 5 p.m. They will have a craft, cocoa and cookies.
The Basin City Arts Council Festival of Trees was added after the first year. Businesses, families and individuals decorate a tree, and the public votes for their favorite. Bids are taken for the trees. The highest bidder gets to take the tree home. Since then, gift baskets and other items for bid have been added.
The viewing, voting and bidding may be done Saturday from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Voting ends at 5:30 p.m. The room will reopen after the Home for the Holidays parade with final bidding picking up at 7:15 p.m. and closing at 8 p.m. All bidders must be 18 years and older.
Copper Corner will have a chili and cinnamon roll special that night starting at 5 p.m. The Copper, along with Wheeler’s Basin Market and Basin Pharmacy, is sponsoring a Christmas Art Contest. Each location has a different Christmas scene. Color and return to win prizes.
Both Stockman’s Bar and Elk Wallow will have drink specials. Valley Hardware will be open late with specials as well.
Wyo-Gains will provide free hayrides for all. The load-up and drop-off place will be the vacant lot across from the courthouse.
New this year is a Holiday Craft Market at the Basin Rec/Old HS Gym. It starts at 8 a.m. and runs through 3 p.m.
There will also be vendors in front of the Basin Area Chamber on C Street.
