July 24, 1924
Mr. Clark Gapen last week received a letter form Mr. Elmer Robinson, old schoolmate who is now located at Porterville, Calif. His correspondence described the widespread drought which has struck that part of the country and stated that the power plants have had to close down because of the low stage of the water and his father, Mr. Chas Robinson, is out of work along with many other electricians. He said that whole sections are feeling the effects of the drought. The letter was sent through the air mail, leaving Porterville at 8 a.m. on the morning of the 14th and reaching Hyattville on the afternoon of the 16th.

July 20, 1949
A fresh coat of paint was applied early this week to the Harman Bros. Implement Company’s building front as Basin businessmen continue to brighten their establishments. The installation of new window panels and frames at the Palace Market was approximately halfway to its completion this week.
Final preparations have been made for the Mormon Pioneer Day celebration, which will be held at Burlington on Saturday, July 23. Activities will include a parade, children’s program, dancing for the young folks from 1-3 p.m. in the afternoon and dancing for the older persons starting at 8:30 p.m. A rodeo in the true western style will begin at promptly 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. Bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, calf riding and cow pony races will highlight the outdoor event at the rodeo grounds 3½ miles south of Burlington as put on by Maller Bros.
Two hundred thirty-three 4-H club members and leaders attended the Big Horn County 4-H Club camp at Camp Arrowhead from July 11-13, according to an announcement by Aleen Holbrook, David N. Taylor, and Arvil D. Ashment, the county’s extension agents.

Miss Nancy Joan Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Davis of Basin, became the bride of Donald E. Riley in an afternoon ceremony on July 20 at the First Baptist Church in Basin. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Riley, also of Basin.  
The National Rifle Association of America announces that Garland E. Jones of Basin, will compete in the 1974 National High Power Rifle championships to be held August 11-18.
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Chesshire of Greybull are the parents of a 7-pound, 15½- ounce daughter born July 15 at South Big Horn County hospital. She has been named Tanya Lee Chesshire.

Kyle and Karrie Tharp of Hyattville, who are members of the Paintrock FFA Chapter at Riverside High School, received $1000 scholarships to continue their education at the University of Wyoming.
After 54 years, the Future Homemakers of America is changing its name. Students across the country voted recently to change the organization’s name to Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) a name they believe is more in line with the role of teenagers in today’s world.
Cayleigh Herman, of the Hyattville Paintrock Punchers 4-H Club, and Lacy Preator, a Ridge Runner 4-H member of Greybull, won grand championships in their respective divisions during the Big Horn County Presentation Contest held July 6 in the meeting room of the Big Horn County Courthouse in Basin.
