September 4, 1924
For the week beginning August 5th, there were 3,914 cars traveling between Basin and Greybull. These cars carried a total of 10,964 passengers. Wyoming licenses were carried by 2,752 of this total and foreign state licenses by 1,162. Two-thousand-five-hundred-and-nine cars were making local trips and ,1344 were classified as through travel. The maximum travel for any one day was on Sunday, when the total was 628 cars, and the minimum travel was on Tuesday when the total was 506 cars.
This appears to be moving week in Manderson. T.M. Johnston and his family are moving into the house by the lumber yard; Seth Johnston is moving his family from the hotel into the Forshee house, vacated by T.M. Johnston, and Mrs. Scott is moving from the Edwards place south of town to the hotel.

Prospects for the 1949 Class A football season looked bright for the Basin Bobcats this week as Head Coach Gene A. Minor released the team’s schedule and an indication of the Bobcat line-up. Listed as centers are Cart Beck and Donald Walcott, playing guard positions will be William Severy, Ron Gibler, William Davis, Loy Harris, Tommy Harless, and Ronald Harless. Tackles will be Harvey Blank, James Tuttle, Albert Hallcroft and Jakie Thompson. Ends will be Dennis Lyman, Dale Perkins, LeRoy Beckwith and Miles Bennett. Backfield material includes Dexter Bennett, Monte Best, David Kost, Milliam Michaelis, Richard Bratton and Floyd Ellison.
Construction of an addition to the building housing Wheeler’s Market was virtually complete this week with only interior appointments yet unfinished. The addition, located immediately behind the former Ahrens building, will afford unloading and storage facilities as well as house equipment for curing meat.

Dr. and Mrs. Peter Frank’s new home being built south of Basin was entered and stripped of possibly as much as $12,000 worth of furnishings and tools sometime last Thursday night or early Friday morning. Big Horn County Sheriff George Warfel said Friday morning that Bill Stoelk discovered the burglary when he reported for work at the house about 7 a.m. Friday.
Big Horn County Clerk Ellen Cowan Whipps said Friday that her morning mail contained a $100 check and a request to recount votes cast in the recent gubernatorial race on the Republican ticket. She said the recount will be made this week.

Big Horn County School District #4 started the 1999-2000 school year last Wednesday with eight fewer children enrolled in district classes than it finished with last school year in May.
Like Basin, the Burlington and Greybull school districts also experienced big shifts in their student numbers this fall. Burlington is the only school district in south Big Horn County that actually gained students this school year. They ended the academic year last May with an enrollment of 288 students. When school resumed last month, 295 students were enrolled and 4 more have since been added.
