Kudos to the volunteers!
Winners from the recent election should be clearly identified by the time of this publication. There are several folks, however, who played a very important role but whose names may never make the news.
Those folks are the local volunteers. The volunteers, or election heroes, as I like to call them, contribute their own time to make sure our voting process is conducted in a manner that allows each voter’s voice to be heard.
These unsung heroes spend time preparing behind the scenes for the big day. Then on election day they are there, ready to greet voters with a smile as they enter. Whether it is your first time voting, or your 101st time, they help get the voter pointed in the right direction to make sure their vote is counted. Afterward and before the voter leaves, they make sure to present him or her with the coveted “I voted” sticker to wear for the remainder of the day, alerting others you did your part and voted.
Most of us are so busy rushing to do our civic duty on election day that we forget about those that are there, doing theirs. The election heroes, that work behind the scenes and donate the gift of time in the name of democracy are people from our own community. They are our neighbors, friends and family.
So if you happen to see someone that was there on election day working behind the scenes, maybe go out of your way to thank them. Let them know if their commitment has inspired you as an American.
I know it has inspired me. Thank you, election heroes!
