A visit to the Heinz pickling station yesterday elicited the information that cucumbers are coming in nicely, but that the big rush has not yet started. Superintendent Early said he was looking for a big day on Saturday and that there ought to be a good harvest from that time on.
Billy Wilkinson of Horse Creek, Wyo., today stands as world’s championship cowboy bronco buster following his victories at Frontier Days celebration.

July 27, 1950
The board of trustees of School strict No. 17, meeting in special session Wednesday evening, selected one of several applicants for the post of superintendent which came vacant last week with the resignation of J.M. Chappell. Ray Cummings, the school board clerk, stated this morning that the name could not be released as the board has been unable to reach the person chosen and is not certain of his acceptance.
The main street of the Basin business district has been kept clean of papers, boxes, discarded wrappers and large amounts of dust by Sam Jackson, who acts under the authority of the town council to keep Fourth Street tidy. In the early morning of several days each week, Mr. Jackson works a particular section of the street, sweeping the clods of mud, candy wrappers, paper bags, pasteboard boxes, cigar and cigarette tubs, etc., into the curb where they are pushed into a central heap and loaded onto one of the town’s trucks for disposal.

July 31, 1975
The first deliveries of the 1975 malting barley crop reached Basin mills Monday, nearly a week later than had earlier been estimated. The first delivery to the Big Horn Co-Operative Mktg. Assn. plant in Basin was made by Claude Craft of Manderson. Manderson growers also were the first to deliver barley to E.H. Walrath & Sons, Inc.; in the latter case the growers were Schwartz and Lotspeich doing business a S&L Co.
An extensive remodeling and expansion program is being planned for Security State Bank, it was revealed by Executive Vice President R.V. Faure. The plans call for expansion of the bank facilities into the annex formerly occupied by the district drafting office of the Wyoming Highway Department.
At a meeting in Kalispel Mont., late last week, the board of directors of the Out West Bean organization honored the memory of the late Leo A Smith. Smith served as a member of the board for 24 years. A memorial scroll was presented to Mrs. Leo A. Smith who was present for the occasion.
Mrs. F.E. (Penelope) Johnson was the guest of honor at a retirement tea held at the Wyoming Sanitarium on Tuesday, July 29. Mrs. Johnson has been with the sanitarium since 1958.

Paul Kost has been nominated to attend a session of the National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence and Diplomacy, to be held in Washington D.C. in February. He was selected for his academic record and his strong commitment to the national security of the USA.
David and Shannon Butz of Basin are the parents of a 6 pound, 8 once baby boy, David Newton Leroy, born at West Park Hospital in Cody.
