What the heck is wrong with some people?

On July 20 a pickup truck driving north on U.S. Highway 20 South had a tire blow up. This caused the truck and the trailer it was pulling to leave the highway near Elk Creek south of Basin.  The trailer was mangled and was hanging over the canal (as seen on the front page of this paper last week).

But for the grace of God, the family, the truck and the trailer would have gone into the full canal.

That is wonderful news. So why this headline?  The disgusting and wrong part of this story follows.

The accident was on Sunday. The family returned to haul the trailer home on Tuesday. The two propane tanks on the trailer were gone.

Sometime between 5 p.m. Monday (July 21) and 7 a.m. Tuesday (July 22), a person(s) stopped and stole the tanks. What the heck? When seeing the mangled trailer, most people would be concerned and hope that everyone walked away from the accident.

Sadly, there are people out there who instead decided to steal from a family that already had experienced a loss. What the heck again?

A theft report has been filed with the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. I hope the person(s) that stole those tanks sees this and decides to do the right thing. Or perhaps, there are people reading this that saw the tanks being removed and know who was doing it.

Perhaps an anonymous tip to the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office would get the tanks back to the family.
