Town Council reschedules first June meeting

At the May 28 Basin Town Council meeting the council voted to move their June 11 meeting to Monday June 15 at 7 p.m. Some of the council were not available on June 11. To make sure their was a quorum, the meeting was moved.  Mayor CJ Duncan, Councilpersons Mike Dellos, Chuck Hopkin and Linda Weeks were in attendance at the May 28 meeting. As was town administrator Deaun Tigner. 

Budget Ordinance 719-Budget 2026-27 passed the second reading. Also passing on the second reading was Ordinance 720-Utility Rate Increase. 

Town Engineer Jesse Frisbee discussed the town’s chip seal project on Ninth Street and Sixth Street.  Bids were reviewed. The low bid was from Mountain Construction at $53,054.53.  Frisbee said the estimate was for around $66,000. He asked the council to expand the chip seal area since the bid came in below the estimated budget.  The council voted to accept the bid from Mountain Construction and to expand the chip seal project. 

OTHER BUSINESS 

• Building and demo permits were approved for Dallman Properties on North Fifth Street and Dahlke on South Third Street. 

• Dellos reported that the P & Z Committee had a public meeting prior to the council meeting this evening. The committee will be working to provide a recommendation to the council regarding subdivision requests. 

• Hopkin noted that the Rec District interviewed two people for the rec director position. He anticpates a decision on hiring at their July meeting. 

• Weeks gave an update on the Activities Committee. The update included town clean up. 

• Weeks also gave an update on the Beautification Committee. She noted flowers had been planted in the flower pots inconjuction with the elementary school children, there was a clean up at Russell Park, they will have a booth at Lilac Days and the Yard of the Month is back. She added everyone is invited to the ribbon cutting for the Basin Mural on June 5. 

• Duncan provided an update on the Big Horn Regional Joint Powers Board. He noted that the minutes from the April meeting were in the council’s packet. 

• No update on the South Big Horn County Joint Powers Board was available. 

• Special event permits were approved for Lilac Day activities June 5 and 6. 

• The bill of sale of the town’s antique firetruck to the BHC Fire District 2 was reviewed and approved. 

• Dellos was added as a signatory on the town’s banking accounts. 

• A letter of support was requested from Midwest Assistance Program for an assest management project. The council approved the letter of recommendation.
