Gobs of people attend the Basin Mural Ribbon Cutting and dedication

Despite the heat thirty plus people came to the Basin Mural Ribbon cutting last Friday at the Basin Heritage Commons. Basin mayor CJ Duncan welcomed the crowd and thanked the sponsors which included:  Gottsche, Wyoming Culture Trust Fund, Big Horn REA, UW Extension, South Big Horn County Water District, TCT, Basin Area Chamber, Dondee/CJ Duncan, Linda Weeks, Diana Burch and the Ellison/Greene families. 

The Basin Beautification members Diana Burch, Wende Crowe and Linda Weeks cut the ribbon. Weeks is also a Basin Town Council member. She worked closely with the Basin Area Chamber to make the mural come to fruition. She gave a short thank you and welcome speech. 

The artists Deanna Skillman and Rebecca Kinane were on hand. They received applause and cheers from the attendees. Construction on the Commons hardscape started June 8. 

Danae Bales with daughters Bella and Violetta along with John Joyce sealed the time capsule. Once construction of the commons is complete the capsule will be buried and sealed. Over the capsule will be a paver saying don’t open until 2126. The capsule was built by Joyce. Joyce has been a huge advocate and help with the mural project. Bricks and pavers for the common’s walkways are still available for purchase. Bales had a table at the event that showcased bricks/pavers that had already been purchased.  Those pavers included tributes to families, organizations, anniversaries and even few animals.  Call Bales at 307-292-1845 for additional information to purchase a commemorative brick/paver. 

Food was available from Up in Smoke BBQ and Smokin Good Cream Cheese. EJD Creative Sips dirty sodas were a hit. Stockman’s Bar and Grill provided free cold water to help fight the heat. The Man in Tan was a hit with his music and asked to be invited back next year.
