Hello from the Basin Library

July is a month-long celebration here at the Basin Library! Both the United States of America and Wyoming are celebrating birthdays this month, and we will be honoring both mile stones with an adult fun activity, a reading challenge, story time, Friday afternoon Kid Club, a picnic in the park, and a table at the Community Builders Event in the park. 

Our Fridays will go back to our regular schedule

Story time — preschool 10:30 — Elementary age 11:30

July 9th — Adult-Teen — Creating Denim Flowers

July 10th — Storytime kids — Wyoming Statehood Day picnic

July 22 — All Ages — Community Builders Event in the park

All month long, we will have a U.S.A. & Wyoming themed reading challenge!

GED classes will resume on Thursday, July 3rd. They meet upstairs on Thursdays between 10:00 and 4:00.

There are some changes at the library this month. Jill Lorash accepted the job of Director of the Basin Recreation Department! She will be missed at the library but will be such a great asset to the community in this new position! I look forward to collaborating on future events. 

Tina Ely has retired as BHC Library Director; Barbara Johnston accepted the position as interim director. That means I had 2 staff positions to fill! Christie Christopherson is our newest staff member. I’m still taking applications for the 2nd part time position and hope to fill it soon.

Our Summer Reading Program in June was a huge success! We had 107 kids participate in our reading challenge. Our activities were very well attended, with around 100 people showing up on each Wednesday activity! 

A big thank you to our community members who donated time and money, which out which we couldn’t have made it happen; Wyoming Art Council, Friends of the Basin Library, Big Horn County Library Foundation, Greybull Building Supply, Valley Hardware, Paleontologists Angela Redick and Jessica Lippincott, Archeologist Hillary Jones, Jake Shaw for cooking our wonderful picnic lunch, our awesome volunteers Diane Henrich, Julie Reuter, Annie Mueller, and Sandra Wyatt, and all the anonymous patron donations. We couldn’t have done it without all of you!
