July 8, 1926

We’ll say it was a quiet Fourth in Basin. Everybody who could so got away over Sunday and Monday and there were only a few of us poor folks left. 

Mr. George W. Johnson states that his company has a force of men working on the inn they started to construct last year at a point near the sawmill above Tensleep. This inn is located in one of the most attractive spots on the Black and Yellow trail and will prove a most popular resort when it is completed. 

Miss Martha Agee and Mr. Wm. Curtis were married in Worland on Tuesday, July 6, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Clyde Hampton of the Baptist Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Agee and the groom is a well-known resident of the Otto district.

July 5, 1951

R.W. Russell addressed members of the Basin Rotary club at a luncheon meeting last Thursday. Mr. Russell told the club of his experiences with early development of the now famous B-36 heavy bomber of the United States air force. 

Four students from Basin and one from Emblem are among those listed on the University of Wyoming honor roll for the spring quarter. Those students from Basin include: Joyce Beverly Bentsen, Frederick K Clemments, Kathryn J. Whitlock and Charlotte Williamson. Emblem was represented by Glenn P. Roehrkasse.  

Mrs. Olin Rose presented her music pupils in a piano recital Thursday evening. Her students include: Jerry Flyr, Alma Ashment, Jon Ashment. Janice Flyr, Debbie Russell, Vickie Hartman, Peggie Wrigley, Carolyn Boelens, Jeane Palmer, Shirley Nelson, Barbara, Cropsey, Jodell Riedl, Jimmy Clark Carolyn Clark and Carolyn Nelson. 

50 years ago

July 8, 1976

A whirlwind struck a relatively small area on Orchard Bench about 5 p.m. Sunday causing some damage at the Don Bonny and Robert Stauffacher home. Mrs. Bonny said the whirlwind overturned a camper trailer, tore shingles from the roof of their home and scattered trash, cans and lumber, some of the debris was carried as far and the river bottom east of the railway tracks. 

Temperatures soared to 100 degrees and better in the Big Horn Basin and parts of Montana Sunday as crowds celebrated the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. 

A cloudburst in the area between Hyattville and Ten Sleep last Wednesday sent torrents of water rushing down the Nowood river overflowing the Nowood river road in a least two places and causing some damage as it went.

Two schools in South Big Horn County were cited for their results in the statewide assessment test administered earlier this year. Cloud Peak Middle School and Burlington High School were among the schools praised by Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Judy Catchpole for their performance. 

Riverside High School graduates Sarah Bayert and Blake Crossley and Burlington High School graduates Annalee Alexander, Desmon Mitchell Taubi Neves and Rachel Winters have been named to the spring semester president’s honor roll at Northwest College.
