Letter to the Editor: Manderson citizen responds to letter criticizing the town

Dear Editor: 

In response to a letter written by Katlynn Herrera regarding the Manderson town council. I’d like to address some of her points. 

Your tax dollar: I live in the town too. We have 2 houses and some extra lots. Pay your taxes on this cheap land. Be happy you live in a 20-year-old trailer that has weeds for shade. Your taxes are squat. 

Town buys tractor: The tractor was 30 years old.

Houserollers? You mean hose rollers? 

New lawn mower: You and your girlfriends want a fancy park. A lawn mower is needed unless you want to share the grass with goats. 

Town spending money on flowers: Your house having $50 of flowers would do wonders. 

Mosquito tax: Did you know it was a former council member that was supposed to apply for a grant for the spray? Even with the grant in previous years, the town lost about $8900 spraying. You are uninformed. I think we need not spray. You can take the $11 and put in on the upcoming increase on your water bill. There will be one because $500K is being spent on a new water line. 

Proper protocol on service shutoff: It isn’t protocol it is the town council that makes the town ordinance. Pay your water bill or your water gets turned off. Regarding the late fee. Pay late on a credit card and the fine could be 20-30% increase on the bill. 

Audit: You are once again uninformed. The audit was on the previous administration. 

Out of town bookkeeper: There is not a person smart enough in Manderson to be one. You don’t have a clue again. These books must coincide with state and federal rules. 

Charge for clerk’s time: Why should the town clerk have to spend her time answering your questions? Have copies made anywhere and you will get a bill. 

In closing, it reminds me of my dad saying, “If people don’t think you are all there, don’t open your mouth or have an opinion as it removes all doubt.”
