100 years ago

July 22, 1926

Mr. Geo. W. Black came in Tuesday and announced that he would proceed at once to rebuild his big Garage that was so badly damaged last winter because of the great body of snow that had fallen on the roof. 

Mr. J.E. Michaels was in on Monday with his son, Glenn, who had suffered a broken arm Friday as a result of a fall from a horse, and the injured member was given needed attention. 

Jerome Deveraux, who had spent the last year attending school at the University of Wyoming, returned home on Sunday.

Ancil Dickman is going around with his left arm in a sling because a horse he was trying to ride Tuesday morning objected to the procedure.

75 years ago

July 19, 1951

Nearly all of the unpaved parking along the south side of C street between Fourth and Fifth streets disappeared under new concrete on last Thursday. The sidewalk now extends from curb to building front from the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph office past the Big Seven Bar. A concrete driveway affording access to the parking lot between the Big Seven bar and the McKinney building at the corner of Fourth and C streets also was installed. 

An official ballot printed for the 1910 general election in Big Horn county was unearthed late last week by workmen removing a porch from the sheriff’s house located behind the county courthouse. Among names appearing on the ballot are those of P.W. Metz and Thos. M Hyde.

50 years ago

July 22, 1976

Laine Anderson, 15, of Basin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Anderson, placed first in this year’s Big Horn “100” horse ride. He won the McKinneycup for the second consecutive year. Laine completed the ride in 11 hours and 40 minutes. Others from the area who participated were Marla Wardell, Merlin Wardell, Charlene Anderson and Rory Perkins.

Mr. and Mrs. James Mockler and family of Basin will be leaving soon for Helena, Mont., where Mr. Mockler will fill the position as executive director of the Montana Coal Council. An association of coal companies and related industries. The Mocklers moved to Basin nine years ago from Dubois. He presently owns Mockler Land and Realty. 

Marine Lance Corporal Glen A. Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Davis of Hyattville, Wyo., has been promoted to his present rank while serving with 3d Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Santa Ana, Calif. Glen is a former student of Manderson-Hyattville high school.

The cost of living in Big Horn County remains below the statewide average, according to the most recent comparison conducted by the state division of economic analysis. 

Basin residents should be aware of the presence of rattlesnakes in and around town. Two snakes were seen in Basin in late June and early July. 

Cloud Peak Middle School students Lindsey Cooper and Casandra Farlow, along with Chelsea Bischoff, from Burlington, have received savings bonds for their outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements.
