The Big Horn County GOP has organized a second candidate forum to help voters learn about the county candidates. The event is August 7, 5:30 p.m., at the Basin Rec Center (old high school gym) at 911 B Street in Basin.

Co-hosting and emceeing the forum is the Basin Area Chamber. Like the Lovell Area Chamber sponsorship of the first forum, the chamber is not endorsing a candidate or a party. Rather it is sponsoring to help voters learn about candidates before the primary election on August 18.

BHC GOP Treasurer Kay Mattis sent invites to all the county Republican candidates. In the invite she informed them that the format will be the same as it was in Lovell. Each candidate group will be asked the same questions. Prior to the questions the group will be sequestered so none have the advantage of hearing the question and the answer of the previous opponent.

At 5:30 p.m. the county candidates who are running unopposed will start off the forum. Those are Clerk of District Court, County Attorney, County Clerk, Assessor and Treasurer.

From 6-6:30 p.m. the two candidates for County Coroner will answer the prewritten questions.

Commissioner candidates will start at 6:30 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m. There will be a break from 7-7:15 p.m.  At 7:15 p.m. the candidates for the Sheriff’s Office will start. That portion will end at 7:45 p.m.

An ice cream social sponsored by the BHC Republican Party follows. Big Horn County voters are encouraged to attend.
