On Saturday, the shop at the Steva and Rick Dooley home on Lane 40 caught on fire. The Basin, Burlington and Greybull fire departments responded.

A neighbor saw the fire, called 911 and then went into the shop to make sure no one was in it. The Dooleys were thankfully in their home.

The fire crews spent hours on the fire Saturday and then returned Sunday to make sure it was completely out and to help with the inspection. It was a full day for the firefighters on both days. The Worland Fire Department inspectors determined the cause was an accidental electrical fire.

Big Horn County Fire District 2 Captain Keith Kelly said that the fire was a challenge because of the diesel and oil in the shop.  Alex Olsen was the incident commander. Both Kelly and Steva Dooley said Olsen did a great job.

In an interview with Dooley she said,  “In the light of eternity this is pretty small.” She added that they are thankful that the fire wasn’t as bad as it could have been.  Some of the tractors in the shop are salvageable. They had two freezers of meat. The fire cooked the meat in one of them, but the meat was still frozen in the second freezer. “Fire is weird,” she said. “A lot of things burned but some cardboard boxes weren’t even scorched.”

Several law enforcement officers said the Dooley was “a walking testament.”  Dooley praised God that no one was hurt and their home was not touched.

She also was appreciative of Toolman Rentals and Sales. Tim Allen brought their excavator to the site on Sunday to help the firefighters get access to more of the shop.
