Wyoming hunter education class offered in Cody

CODY – A Wyoming hunter education internet completion course will be held in Cody April 27 and seats are available.
The class will take place Saturday, April 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Class will be held at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Cody Regional office at 2 Tilden Trail.

Rebels perform well at large meet

The Riverside Rebels continued to rack up the wins, personal records and automatic qualifications Friday at a meet in Shoshoni that attracted more than 20 teams, including several from the larger 2A and 3A classifications.
With their talented roster of sprinters and hurdlers, the Rebels earned 76 points.  The girls, with 37 points, placed fifth, behind only Lander, Big Piney, Rawlins and Kemmerer.  The boys, with 39, settled in seventh place, behind Thermopolis, Lander, Burlington, Rawlins, Dubois and Glenrock.

Huskies hit homestretch of track season

The Burlington Huskies had a busy week with back to back meets in Shoshoni and Lovell. Coach Ryan Olson feels there are many benefits. “It’s always nice to give athletes more chances to prequalify for the state meet,” he said. “Meets held on consecutive days especially help our distance runners, who normally can’t compete in all of their events in one short meet and it’s always nice to give kids a chance to compete as much as they can. It brings out their best and lets them know where they can be most successful at the end of the season.”

GBAC wrestlers enjoy successful trip to state tournament

The Greybull-Basin Athletic Club concluded its season at the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association’s state tournament last weekend in Casper with two of its team members claiming state titles and nearly everyone winning at least one match.
Kaislee Nyberg and Maythe Garay produced the biggest wins for GBAC, capturing freestyle and folkstyle titles in their respective weight classes.  Nyberg wrestled in the 10-and-under girls division, Garay in the 12-and-under girls division.

With their sophomores taking the ACT test, the Burlington Huskies were down in numbers in Powell on Saturday at the LA Kohnke Invitational. They still saw some individual successes but struggled against the larger teams, with the boys taking fifth with 51 points behind Cody, Powell, Riverton and Lovell and the girls in seventh place.

Delta Craft won her division in freestyle, folkstyle and Greco to pace the Greybull-Basin Athletic Club at last weekend’s Powell tournament.
Craft’s wins came in the 12-and-under girls division.

With winter weather back in the forecast for Saturday, the scheduled Greybull track meet was cancelled. Burlington was able to pick up the D & D Invitational in Worland on Thursday. “It was probably our best meet so far, as our numbers go,” said Coach Ryan Olson. “We had a lot of kids put in some great performances. It’s been a month now since our first practice and so the kids are starting to see their hard work pay off with good results.”

RIVERTON (WNE) — Wyoming Game and Fish Department Director Brian Nesvik will retire in September after 29 years of dedicated service to conserving Wyoming’s wildlife.
Nesvik’s journey with the department began in 1995 as a game warden in the Laramie Region.
His dedication and passion for wildlife led him to climb the ranks of the wildlife division, ultimately earning him the governor’s appointment as the director in 2019.

Riverside thinclads claim eight wins

Ty Strohschein, Vinaya VanderPloeg, Kennedy Bassett, Johnna Clifford and Varissa Olsen won individual events to pace the Riverside Rebels at Thursday’s Burlington Invitational.
Strohschein won the 100 and the 200, ran a leg of the winning 400-meter relay team where he was joined by Gavyn Cervantes, Avery Clifford and Yua Oka, and placed third in the shot.
The Riverside boys placed third with 68 points.
VanderPloeg won the 100 and placed second in the 200 and the 400.
