I should have known better, I am not sure what I was thinking.
Rick likes pork and beans. He likes them so much he eats about a pint a week, so rather than buying them from the store pre-made, I just buy the beans and can them myself. He reminded me a couple of days ago that he only had three jars left, so I decided I better get busy.

Beware out-of-state influence in our elections

Dear Editor:
As we head to the polls next week to cast our vote, it is important that we know who our candidates are and have done our own research on voting records, endorsements and current issues.
We have had aspiring politicians move into our communities from out of state and run for state office shortly after getting established in our community. Why did they choose our community, and what are their motives?

The 1970’s song “Imagine” by John Lennon paints a picture with the lyrics. It is a song about of all of us getting along and the world being as one. No fighting over religion, no wars, no greed or hunger. What a beautiful picture.
Yet if you imagine other things being gone, the picture is a bleak one. Case in point, our small local businesses. Let’s take Basin as an example.
Imagine no grocery store, no hardware store, no pharmacy, no gas station, no place to eat, no farm supply store, etc. It is not a pretty vision.

A good lesson from butterflies … rest during the storms

Did you know butterflies seek shelter when it rains because it damages their wings? It’s OK to rest during the storms of life. You will always fly again once it’s over.

As summer is upon us, it’s important to be aware of the risks associated with tick bites and the potential for contracting tick-borne diseases. In the United States, ticks are most active during these warmer months, and understanding how to prevent and handle tick bites is important for maintaining health.
Ticks like wooded areas and high grasses. Paying attention if you walk in these areas will help you be aware of the possibility of tick bites. If you hike trails, try to stay in the center away from fallen foliage and brush.

Living in a great place

A couple of things happened on Sunday evening that made me think, “We really do live in a pretty amazing place with some pretty amazing people.”
Sundays are quite lazy around our house. After church, we had lunch and then took a little siesta. Around 4 p.m., I got a message from my friend Betty wondering if I had some eggs she could buy and offering to come get them. She did and we had a good visit.

I have always been a person that loves giving  to others. Nothing makes me happier than the joy a small token of appreciation brings to friends and family. With many changes and challenges that have occurred for us this past year my husband and I have had the opportunity to be on the receiving end of many gifts.
