The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They make the best of everything they have.
One of the things I did while in Cheyenne was attend the Governor’s Arts Award Gala. It reminded me that there are a lot of grants available through the Wyoming Arts Council.

I was down at Angie’s house last week doing the things I do when she is working a late shift. I feed her dogs and cats, build up her fire and make sure everything is in order for the evening.

A $100 bill remains an extraordinary piece of currency to hold. Even in an age of inflation, a Benjamin still represents some serious dough.
These days, the bill is also a veritable work of art, with various designs, a hologram and textures. Those are there, of course, to make it hard for counterfeiters to work, but it seems locally a few have gotten through to local businesses.

It is the story that plays itself out over and over again in our lives. Our eye is drawn to something that at first only piques our curiosity. But what was only something fleeting becomes something that holds our attention and then becomes an obsession. The garden narrative found in the opening pages of the Bible describes a world of unimaginable harmony. Man and woman living as they were designed and created to live: in relationship with God, each other and creation. Living as it was meant to be, as we were meant to be.

My father passed away just after Thanksgiving in 2020 and Christmas was not going to be the most joyful time for our family. The Croft and Welch families came to our house and lined both sides of our street with cars on Christmas Eve and rang our doorbell and sang several Christmas songs to us. We were so touched and no one had ever done anything like that for us before. When kindness is unexpected, that makes it even better.

Prairie Doc Perspective: ‘No Man is an Island’

“No man is an island, entire of itself, every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.” This is the beginning of a poem from 1624. In it, the poet John Donne appreciates how humans are all connected. Indeed, humans are social beings, and social connection is a factor in our health.
We all know the importance of a healthy diet and exercise for our health. We are getting better at understanding the importance of mental health. One thing we do not discuss much, however, are the benefits of social connection.

UW in Your Community event cements strong ties to the university

Wyoming has been described as one big town with really long streets, signifying the close-knit relationships among Wyoming people and communities.
One of those long streets leads to Laramie, home of the University of Wyoming. Though I’m not a UW alum, I’ve always been a huge Wyoming Cowboys fan and a supporter of our lone university, and I’ve always appreciated the ties among UW and our communities.
