I love Thanksgiving. I love preparing the food all day and enjoying it while sitting around a table with some of the people I love most. And there is one holiday tradition that I have grown to adore. As we sit down to eat, we share one thing we feel grateful for this year.

Thanksgiving is such an integral part of our lives as believers.  Thanksgiving is one of the gates to God’s presence in the throne room (Psalm 100:4 and Isaiah 60:18).
The sacrifice of praise we offer God continually is the fruit or words of our lips giving thanks to his name (Hebrews 13:15).
God’s will in Christ Jesus concerning us is to give thanks to God in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:18) preventing circumstances from defining our measure of faith (Romans 12:3).

Dear Editor:
The Salvation Army/Basin Area Food Pantry is amazed by the generous donations for the Thanksgiving baskets. With your help, we were able to give out over 100 baskets this
year. So many made this happen including the Paintrock FFA  food drive, Basin First Baptist Church turkey/ham drive, the youth group from the Methodist Church that filled the baskets, donations from businesses, individuals and all those who participated in some way.
This community has blessed so many. May God bless each one of you!

An everyday lesson in gratitude

This won’t be the typical Thanksgiving column. Yet it is about being thankful. As mom approaches her 93 birthday, I am grateful to see her every day. To wake her up, to kiss her and even to give her a bath. Somedays are a challenge as evidenced by the “bath time stories with mom” on my FB page.  Mom gets a kick out of people’s comments about the adventure of her bath times. The following is a good reminder to caretakers of the elderly or of  someone who has diminished physical or mental capacity. It was originally written in Spanish by Guillermo Pena.

Lighted Christmas parade forms due

Great leaders don’t set out to be good leaders. They set out to make a difference.
Entries for the Home for the Holidays Lighted Christmas Parade are due Monday, Nov. 20. Forms are available on the chamber’s FB page or at the newspaper in Basin. Christmas lights are going up all over town. Please get yours up before Nov. 25 for the annual Home for the Holidays in Basin. If you need lights, the chamber has plenty. Just give us a call.

All different terms that mean to be grateful, to show gratitude, to let someone know that you appreciate them or something they have done for you, but I decided with the help of a Bible concordance to see what these different terms mean in the Bible. Just an exercise that I challenged myself to do in an effort to bring my heart and mind into a more grateful state of mind. I learned some really interesting things.

These days I am supposed to wake up an hour later than I was a couple of weeks ago. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that I am supposed to wake up at exactly same time, except that exactly the same time is now an hour later. It is somewhat confusing.

Dear Editor:
Democracies matter. It doesn’t matter theoretically or in an abstract thought from our founding fathers. Last week Tuesday showed us it matters.
Today you can vote against abortion. You can say in any state like Ohio, we are not going to punish women, as the former guy said. We are not going to punish doctors, nurses or medical staff. The people of Ohio along with six other states said, “No, we want to keep access to abortion legal and we don’t like what you are doing.”

As the one-year anniversary of the closing of Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home has just gone by, I feel it is important to share what we, as members of the Greybull and Basin communities, have lost.

A good neighbor is worth their weight in gold

Shortly after moving into our new home and before my husband purchased his tractor, we were struggling to control the long grass and weeds on our place. My husband did his best with our riding mower, but it took a long time. One day while my spouse was zooming around with the mower to clear our left pasture, our neighbor appeared in his tractor to mow our right pasture. He didn’t say a word. He just jumped right in and with our neighbor’s generosity the job was finished in no time. That is a good neighbor.
