Disappointing loss ends playoff run for Riverside Rebels

Riverside had some good offensive drives, but couldn’t find the end zone often enough against a stingy Southeast defense in a 50-20 loss in the opening round of the Class 1A nine-man football playoffs.
Riverside struck first on the opening play of the game.  Ty Strohschein took the handoff, juked and stiff-armed into the open and proceeded to run it into the end zone. Josh Wildman completed a pass to Reece Whisenant for two, giving the Rebels an 8-0 lead.

Huskies roll over Farson-Eden in first round

The freezing temperatures didn’t slow down the Burlington Huskies on Friday as they defeated Farson-Eden 64-20 in the first round of the Class 1A six-man football playoffs.
“It was an exciting game for us,” said Coach Trent Aagard. “Farson did some good things and played hard and I thought we started a little flat, but we got going.”
Burlington scored early and often, building a 49-6 halftime lead en route to the 44-point win.

Lady Huskies headed to State

Regional tournament weekend was an intense couple days for the Burlington Lady Huskies and started with not only icy roads, but a broken-down bus.
“The Basin school’s transportation director, Doug Zierolf, saved our day by not only lending us a bus for the weekend but getting out of bed and bringing it to pick us up on the side of the road,” said Coach Erin Bassett. “We so appreciate their help.

Riverside netters take fourth at regionals

The Lady Rebels battled through four opponents at the Class 1A West Regional in Riverton to capture a fourth-place finish and the chance to claim a consecutive state volleyball title.
The best tournament play sees two opponents going point-for-point, and the third-place matchup between Riverside and Burlington certainly delivered. The game went to five nail-biting sets. The Lady Rebels won the first two sets, 25-13, 26-24, before the Lady Huskies came back swinging to win the final three, 23-25, 22-25, 13-15 and capture third place overall.

G-R wrestlers open season with dual in Thermopolis

The middle school wrestling season begins later this week when  Greybull-Riverside hits the road for a dual in Thermopolis and a tournament in  Lovell.
This year’s roster stands at 19, which includes 15 boys and four girls.
The boys squad consists of Braxten Link, Riley Wiggins, Levi Cochrane, Liam Wisehart, Tell Edeler, Marshall Brown, Ben Jacobs, Noah Blakely, Eric VanHeule, Thomas Saunders, Kenneth McClure, Jaxon Womack, Denton Nyberg, Hunter Craft and Isaiah Palato.

Lady Huskies gear up for regionals

The Lady Huskies finished the regular season with two conference games. “We had a good week of practice with a few curveballs. One of our setters injured her shoulder early in the week so we spent some time working on some other options. The team worked hard together to fill in the gaps and all the girls stepped up to help with the changes,” said Coach Erin Bassett.

Rebel senior night ends in disappointment

Riverside’s final regular season game ended in a disappointing 35-0 loss to Big Piney. The Punchers scored in the first two minutes and dominated play throughout.  Riverside’s offense produced some long drives, but couldn’t get the ball into the endzone.  
“Big Piney was more prepared for the moment than we were,” said Coach  Jason Mitchell. “As coaches, we need to find a way to better prepare our kids for that moment.”

Riverside netters capture Northwest conference title

The Lady Rebels secured the Northwest Conference title and are the No. 1 seed heading into the Class 1A West Regional this weekend after wrapping up an undefeated conference season with two victories against Meeteetse and Dubois.
Riverside finished strong with a 10-0 record in conference play and a 16-12-2 standing overall.

Husky football ends regular season with a win

The Burlington Huskies wrapped up the regular season with a win against Dubois on the road. “It was good for us to face a quality opponent before playoffs start,” said Coach Trent Aagard. “Dubois is well coached and has some real athletes. For them it was a very emotional game as it was Coach Trembly’s last game coached in Dubois after 27 years. His team played hard for him. For us, it was good for some of our older guys to get back at it after a week off.”

Burlington, Riverside team up to win state crown

It was an incredible day for the Huskies in Cheyenne on Saturday, as they competed in the state cross country meet. “It would be hard to draw up a more perfect day,” said Coach Ryan Olson. “The course was beautiful, the weather was perfect and our kids ran great! The boys achieved their goal of a third consecutive 2A state championship and for the first time in three years, it didn’t come down to a single place.”
