G-R places second at Shoshoni Duals

Greybull-Riverside won five of seven duals last weekend, placing second at both the Big Horn County Dual Championships Friday in Lovell and at the Wrangler Duals Saturday in Shoshoni.
Coach Rob Nuttall said his team defeated Rocky Mountain but lost to Lovell at the annual county showdown.
Against the Grizzlies, G-R lost just a single match, at 132 pounds.

Ice fishing requires great deal of safety measures

SHERIDAN — When the creeks and lakes freeze up for the winter, fishermen from all around hit the ice to try their hand at ice fishing – which often proves to be a difficult activity as far as preparation and safety, according to avid fisherman Travis Blaser.
When it comes to safety, falling through the ice is the most daunting hazard, Blaser said.

Whisenant win among highlights of G-R’s dual at Powell

Prior to shutting it down for the holidays, Greybull-Riverside competed at a Dec. 19 dual in Powell.  The Panthers emerged with the win, but G-R was competitive and won several matches.
Loomis Alexander, Bennett Sanford, Ty Strohschein and Reece Whisenant earned victories for G-R. Whisenant’s, which took the form of a 14-5 decision, was particularly noteworthy because his opponent had pinned him twice earlier in the season.

Rebels go 1-2 in Shoshoni

Riverside wasn’t at full strength for its appearance at last weekend’s Wrangler Invitational, but “a lot of guys stepped up and gained some experience” in the absence of starting point guard Josh Wildman, according to Coach Scott Winters.
The Rebels went 1-2, winning the game they expected to, 62-53 over Hanna Elk Mountain on Friday, before dropping their next two, 42-25 to Little Snake River and 64-36 to Cokeville to settle in at 2-4 heading into the holiday break.

Lady Huskies win 2 and lose 2 at weekend tournament

It wasn’t the successful week the Lady Huskies were hoping for, but Coach Cheryl Haslam said she still saw some positive things. “I think that we can play with every team that we played over the weekend. This week, it seemed we really struggled in the third quarter of games. We come out slow and our opponents come out strong. We dig ourselves a hole that we can’t seem to find a way out of.”

The Riverside Lady Rebels encountered two more ranked opponents at last weekend’s Wrangler Invite in Shoshoni, bring their two-week total to four.  And while they’ve dropped all four of those matchups, a challenging December slate typically bears fruit later in the season.
The Rebels fell to Cokeville, the No. 1 ranked team in 1A, by a 52-31 count and fell to Little Snake River, No. 5 in that same poll, by a score of 41-29. But on the plus side, they knocked off Hanna-Elk Mountain, 31-36, finishing the weekend at 2-4 overall.

Wrestlers place third in Silver bracket

Several members of the Greybull-Riverside wrestling team made strong impressions at last weekend’s Battle in the Bighorns, a dual tournament hosted by Worland High School.
Curtis Strohschein and Bennett Sanford, who went undefeated, and Ty Strohschein, Eric Rosales and Loomis Alexander, all of whom lost just a single time, were in the discussion for the Best of the Best matches, according to Coach Rob Nuttall.

There was a lot to like about Greybull-Riverside’s performance at the season-opening Powell Invitational.
Varsity wins by a freshman girl, Elle Holloway, and a sophomore boy, Loomis Alexander, along with several strong finishes on the JV side by a promising group of up-and-comers provided encouragement to everyone associated with the weekend.
“I think it’s the best we’ve wrestled, collectively, at this tournament since I’ve been here,” said Coach Rob Nuttall.
For an opening weekend, he said it was “as good as we could have hoped for.”
