Riverside JV wins at Rocky

Riverside’s JV came away with the 42-30 win over Rocky’s JV. Assistant coaches Matt Jensen and Matt Craft traveled with the team to Cowley while head coach Jason Mitchell stayed back to work with some of the varsity.  
Avery Clifford had two rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown. Zack Kuntz had two rushing touchdowns. Ryder Kozisek had one receiving touchdown and a defensive touchdown, returning a fumble 50 yards, while also hauling in a two-point conversion pass.  Ethan Olson also caught a two-point conversion pass.

Good, Shepperson secure all-around titles

Casey Good and Dusdee Shepperson maintained their hold on the men’s and women’s all-around titles at the Big Horn Rodeo Circuit Finals held Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Lovell Rodeo Grounds.
Good, of Greybull, finished the season with 75 points, adding yet another all-around title to his collection. J.T. Collingwood finished second with 66, followed in third by Burk Pallesen with 51.

Burlington Harriers compete in Worland

The Burlington Huskies competed in their second to last regular season meet in Worland on Thursday.
Howard McNiven placed in the top 10 of the meet in the varsity boys’ division, followed closely by Paul McNiven, Connor Hoyt, James Bassett, Levi Wardell and Bruce McNiven. All finishing within three minutes of each other. “It’s so nice to have boys with similar times that can challenge each other every day at practice and at meets. They really bring out the best in each other,” said Coach Ryan Olson. Wardell and Bassett each finished with personal best times.

Huskies beat the Pronghorns

With four weeks left in the regular season, the Burlington Huskies are currently ranked fourth in the state in six-man football behind undefeated and top-ranked Little Snake River, No. 2 Encampment and No. 3 Dubois.
The Huskies took to the road on Saturday to match up against Farson-Eden. “Farson is a good team that has enjoyed quite a bit of football success and we have had some great games against them over the years,” said Coach Trent Aagard.

The Lady Huskies faced Fort Washakie for the second time on Thursday. The conference game was held in Burlington and was a quick win for the home team with a final score of 25-9, 25-14, 25-11. “We were able to work on our serving technique and it was a nice warm up for the weekend,” said Coach Erin Bassett.
Friday and Saturday, the Bobcat Invite was in Thermopolis. “The timing of this tournament is nice because it comes in the middle of our conference play and gives us a chance to play teams from other parts of the state,” said Bassett.

Riverside gridders are King of the Jungle in homecoming game against Shoshoni

Riverside won its homecoming football game, beating Shoshoni 36-19.  “The offensive line, tight ends and other running backs played an unbelievable game providing running lanes for Ty Strohschein while giving Josh Wildman time in the passing game,” said Coach Jason Mitchell.

Lady Huskies beat Dubois for Homecoming

Homecoming week saw the Lady Huskies face off against Dubois in a conference matchup on Friday. The games were close, but Burlington defeated Dubois in three games 25-17, 25-22 and 25-22.

Riverside netters sweep conference opponents

The Riverside Lady Rebels returned home from a busy road weekend with a 4-0 standing in the Class 1A Northwest Conference after handing out defeats to Meeteetse, Dubois and Fort Washakie.
“The girls continue to work hard and are showing a lot of improvement,” said Coach Cindi Smith.
Starting off strong with a victory over Meeteetse on Friday, the Rebel netters didn’t post their most impressive stats, but they got the job done in three sets, 25-11, 25-18, 25-14.

Cross Country runners continue to see personal bests

Burlington’s cross country team ran twice this past week, seeing personal best times in both Lovell and Cody.
Coach Ryan Olson is pleased with his teams’ progress.
“When it comes to distance running, hard work is almost always rewarded with greatly improved times,” he said. “That is certainly showing this season. These kids have been doing everything asked of them in practice and then going the extra mile (or miles) by running outside of practice on non-school days and weekends.”

Huskies beat the Meeteetse Longhorns

The stormy weather broke long enough for a good game in Burlington on Friday. The Huskies bested Meeteetse in their Homecoming game.
“Meeteetse is always an exciting game for us. They are well coached and have some good athletes. I thought our guys played pretty well. We are starting to see some more players coming along,” said Coach Trent Aagard. “Joe Bassett did a good job setting a physical tone, Jordan Michaels was able to put up a lot of yards and Weston Gotfredson was able to get behind their defense for some big plays. We had a lot of guys contribute.”
