Huskies are state champions

It was a matchup for the books in Laramie on Saturday as the Burlington Huskies took on Little Snake River in a rematch of last year’s championship game.
Little Snake River previously had beaten the Huskies 55-8. The Huskies were not having a repeat this year, outperforming the Rattlers 42-39 to earn the state championship.

State football titles to be decided later this week

The high school football season in Wyoming will end this weekend with five title games on the campus of the University of Wyoming in Laramie.
Only one team from Big Horn County still has championship aspirations.  
The Burlington Huskies will face Little Snake River in the 1A six-man championship game.  It’ll be a rematch of last year’s title game, which was won by the Rattlers, 55-8.
Kickoff is at 10 a.m. Saturday at War Memorial Field.

Lady Rebels eliminated in two at state

Two tough losses at the Class 1A Volleyball Championships in Casper knocked the Riverside Lady Rebels out of state play and killed their chance to claim a consecutive state volleyball title.
The Cokeville Lady Panthers captured the championship title, their 26th in school history. Little Snake River came in second after losing the final matchup in three sets.
Cokeville and Little Snake River were the first- and second-place winners, respectively, at the Class 1A West Regional the previous weekend where Riverside took fourth.

Lady Huskies go 1-2 at state volleyball tournament

Volleyball season has ended for the Burlington Lady Huskies, who competed in the state tournament this past weekend.
The Lady Huskies have had big goals all season long. “On our first day of practice, our team wrote down goals as individuals and goals for our team. As I reviewed them, two common ideas stood out- they wanted to create a positive and energetic atmosphere and make it to the state tournament,” said Coach Erin Bassett.

G-R wrestlers fare well in B division at Riverton tournament

Greybull-Riverside saw one of its wrestlers place in the A division at Saturday’s Spartan Invitational in Riverton.
Kenneth McClure went 2-2, good for fifth place.
The team’s only other A division wrestler, Riley Wiggins, did not place, going 0-2.
It was a different story in the B and girls divisions, with several G-R grapplers finishing in the top six of their respective weight classes.

Burlington Middle School Huskies post undefeated season in six-man play

It was another successful year for the Burlington Middle School football team which wrapped up its season a couple weeks ago. They ended with a 9-0 record in all their six-man competitions. Their only loss came in a challenge match against Rocky Mountain, in which they played up in a nine-man contest and were still able to be competitive in a hard fought game. This is the second year in a row that the middle school hasn’t lost a six-man game.

Greybull-Riverside wrestlers on home mats tonight, on the road Saturday

The middle school wrestling season began at a tournament in Lovell on Saturday and continues this week with a home dual against Powell today (Thursday, Nov. 2) and a tournament in Riverton in Riverton on Saturday.
Greybull-Riverside’s roster stands at 19, according to head coach Mark Sanford.
The boys squad includes Braxten Link, Riley Wiggins, Levi Cochrane, Liam Wisehart, Tell Edeler, Marshall Brown, Ben Jacobs, Noah Blakely, Eric VanHeule, Thomas Saunders, Kenneth McClure, Jaxon Womack, Denton Nyberg, Hunter Craft and Isaiah Palato.

Disappointing loss ends playoff run for Riverside Rebels

Riverside had some good offensive drives, but couldn’t find the end zone often enough against a stingy Southeast defense in a 50-20 loss in the opening round of the Class 1A nine-man football playoffs.
Riverside struck first on the opening play of the game.  Ty Strohschein took the handoff, juked and stiff-armed into the open and proceeded to run it into the end zone. Josh Wildman completed a pass to Reece Whisenant for two, giving the Rebels an 8-0 lead.

Huskies roll over Farson-Eden in first round

The freezing temperatures didn’t slow down the Burlington Huskies on Friday as they defeated Farson-Eden 64-20 in the first round of the Class 1A six-man football playoffs.
“It was an exciting game for us,” said Coach Trent Aagard. “Farson did some good things and played hard and I thought we started a little flat, but we got going.”
Burlington scored early and often, building a 49-6 halftime lead en route to the 44-point win.

Lady Huskies headed to State

Regional tournament weekend was an intense couple days for the Burlington Lady Huskies and started with not only icy roads, but a broken-down bus.
“The Basin school’s transportation director, Doug Zierolf, saved our day by not only lending us a bus for the weekend but getting out of bed and bringing it to pick us up on the side of the road,” said Coach Erin Bassett. “We so appreciate their help.
