Depth a strength as G-R wrestling season begins

With nine state qualifiers returning, Greybull-Riverside is poised to improve on last year’s 11th-place finish at the State 2A Wrestling Championships in Casper.
The team’s journey begins later this week at the Powell Invitational, which is the traditional opener for most Wyoming teams and the second or third meet for the Montana schools that cross the border to join them.
Coach Rob Nuttall said the first two weeks of practice have gone well.

Rebels facing difficult opener

The Riverside Rebels will head to Upton later this week for three games at the Bobcat Invitational, starting with a matchup against the state-runner ups at 2 p.m. Friday.  That will be followed by games against 2A Sundance at 5 p.m. and against Arvada Clearmont at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Coach Scott Winters has a roster of 19 players which includes four seniors, seven juniors, three sophomores and five freshmen.

Coach Jason Mitchell is taking the long view of his Riverside girls basketball team as it prepares for this weekend’s tournament in Upton, viewing the games as an opportunity to lay the foundation for future success.
“December wins and losses won’t matter much once we get to February,” he said, pointing out four of his team’s first six opponents are likely to ranked among the top five in their respective classifications.

Two G-R wrestlers win titles in Shoshoni

Riley Wiggins and Levi Cochrane led the charge for Greybull-Riverside at Friday’s Shoshoni Invitational.
Wiggins went 4-0 to claim the 105-pound title and Cochrane reeled off three straight to earn the gold at 126 at the 10-team competition.
Isaiah Palato added a second-place finish for G-R.
The team will be off for the Thanksgiving break.  When it returns, the focus will be to prep for the season-ending conference tournament.

Lady Rebels named all-state, all-conference

Four Riverside volleyball players were recognized this season by selection to the 1A all-state and all-conference teams.
Junior Vinaya VanderPloeg and sophomore Brooklynn Paxton earned 2023 all-state honors for their performances. A total of 16 players voted on by the head coaches receive the accolade in each classification.

G-R athletes notch wins at Brawl in the Basin

Greybull-Riverside got off to a fast start at Saturday’s Brawl in the Basin, winning 10 straight matches before levelling off over the course of nine grueling hours of middle school wrestling in Worland.
From a big-picture standpoint, the team continues to improve. “We have since the first weekend,” said Coach Mark Sanford. “A lot of things have gotten better. Their intensity definitely has, and they are really battling, which is what you want to see.”

Lady Huskies earn postseason honors

Postseason volleyball awards have been announced.
Junior Breanne Walker was honored with an all-state selection for the Lady Huskies. She was also selected for the second year in a row for all-conference honors and was joined by senior Selena Call and freshman Sarah McNiven.
