The Huskies hosted Riverside on Friday in an important Class 1A Northwest Conference game.
Joe Bassett put up the first two points for the Huskies, but Riverside answered back with a two of their own, which set the tone for a back-and-forth first quarter. Riverside held the lead until about halfway through the second and the teams went into the half with the Huskies up 26-20.

Two claim titles at Ron Thon Memorial Invitational

Greybull-Riverside won individual titles in the varsity girls and JV divisions and all four of its wrestlers won matches in the highly competitive varsity boys’ competition at last weekend’s Ron Thon Memorial Invitational in Riverton.
The Ron Thon is up there with the state tournament in terms of prestige. Just about every wrestler in the state attends, and classifications are meaningless, making each weight class a competition to determine who is best of the best in Wyoming.  To the winners went championship belts.

The Lady Huskies easily knocked out two conference opponents this week as they defeated Ft. Washakie 66-12 Thursday and Dubois 58-23 Friday. These wins have Burlington and Riverside tied in the conference with both teams having conference records of 4-0.

It was a successful weekend for the Huskies as they beat Dubois and Ten Sleep, moving them into second place in the conference with a 2-1 conference record.

The Lady Rebels enjoyed three hard-won victories this past weekend, emerging triumphant in match-ups against Meeteetse (27-54) on Thursday, Ft. Washakie (26-65) on Friday, and Dubois (41-46) on Saturday.
“Three games in three days made for a long weekend,” said Coach Jason Mitchell. “We played really well on Thursday and Friday, but struggled to get going during the Saturday noon game.
“But it was good for us to get conference play started with three wins. I think we’ve started doing a better job of pushing the pace a little more often.”

Curtis Strohschein won the heavyweight division, Ty Strohschein captured second at 175 and Loomis Alexander took third at 138 pounds to lead the surging Greybull-Riverside wrestling squad to a ninth-place finish at last weekend’s Lander Invitational.
The tournament attracted 26 varsity boys teams, with the majority being either 3A or 4A.  The only 2A teams that topped G-R’s 80 points were Thermopolis, which took seventh with 113, and Kemmerer, eighth with 111.5.
“We wrestled a heck of a tournament,” said Coach Rob Nuttall.

Huskies beat Shoshoni in their only tournament win

The Huskies and 10 other teams braved the negative temperatures to compete in the Big Horn Basin Classic this past weekend. The boys’ side of the tournament pitted the Huskies against 2A Greybull, 3A Thermopolis, 2A Wind River and 2A Shoshoni. Burlington was 1-3 on the weekend but Coach Kirby Winland felt it was a great tournament.
